Why Your Surgeon's Communication Style Matters
You will speak to this doctor about a difficult decision, a small crisis at week 2, and a follow-up months later. It matters.
A surgical relationship is not a single transaction. It is an initial consultation, a decision, an operation, a recovery, and typically a year of follow-up. Whether you feel comfortable sending a photograph of a swollen wound at day 4, asking a small question at week 6, or raising an honest concern at month 6, depends almost entirely on how the surgeon communicated at the first meeting.
The consultation is a test on both sides. You are also assessing whether this is a doctor you want to hear from at your most vulnerable, and whether they will be direct with you when the answer to your next question is 'not yet' or 'not this operation'.
Trust your read of that first conversation more than any brochure.
