What Makes Someone a Good Candidate for Aesthetic Surgery?

Dr Danie Hoffmann3 min read

Good general health, a specific concern, realistic expectations and a stable reason for wanting the operation.

The characteristics that make surgery straightforward are consistent across procedures. Physically: good general health, no untreated conditions that affect wound healing or anaesthesia, stable weight, no smoking. Anatomically: the concern is one that surgery can specifically address, with a clear operative plan.

Psychologically: the decision has been thought about for months rather than days, the goals are specific and realistic, and the reason for surgery is your own rather than someone else's. A recent divorce, a new relationship, or a difficult year is not a good reason to book surgery in the next six weeks.

None of this is judgement — it is the same list every ethical surgeon works through, because the patients who match it consistently do best.
