Risks and Complications — What Every Patient Should Know
The general risks that apply to every operation, plus the specific ones that apply to yours.
Every operation carries general risks: the risks of anaesthesia, bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing, scarring, altered sensation, asymmetry, and — in a small proportion of cases — the need for revision. These are discussed in every consultation and listed on the consent form you sign.
Each procedure also carries specific risks. Rhinoplasty: altered breathing, small irregularities in the bridge or tip, prolonged tip swelling. Breast augmentation: capsular contracture, implant rupture, changes in nipple sensation, need for future revision. Body contouring: seroma, contour irregularities, wound-edge problems, longer-term skin laxity.
Results vary between individuals and no outcome can be guaranteed. A surgeon who does not walk you through these risks in detail is not doing informed consent properly.
