How to Prepare Your Home for Recovery

Dr Danie Hoffmann3 min read

A recliner, a small side table, front-buttoning clothes, and a plan for the first three nights.

The most useful piece of furniture in the first week is a recliner or an armchair with a footstool — most facial and breast patients sleep more comfortably slightly elevated than flat. Beside it: water, phone charger, medication, a small notebook for questions, and easy snacks.

Clothing: front-buttoning shirts, loose bottoms, slip-on shoes. No pull-over tops for the first 1–2 weeks after breast or facial procedures.

Support: line up help for the first 3–5 days — meals, lifts, childcare, pets. Fill prescribed medications before surgery day so you do not have to leave the house to collect them. Freeze a few home-cooked meals in the week before surgery. Small preparations remove most of the stress from week one.

Educational content only. Results vary between individuals and all surgery carries risk. Every plan begins with an unhurried consultation and an examination — never a quote over the phone.
