When Can I Return to Exercise After Surgery?

Dr Danie Hoffmann3 min read

Gentle walking from day one. Light cardio at 2–3 weeks. Full training usually between weeks 6 and 8.

Movement matters from day one — short, easy walks around the house or garden reduce the risk of blood clots and speed healing. What has to wait is anything that raises blood pressure, strains healing tissues or risks a knock.

Typical windows: gentle walking straight away; brisk walking or stationary bike at 2–3 weeks; light resistance and low-impact cardio at 4–6 weeks; full training including running, heavy weights, upper-body work and contact sport between weeks 6 and 8. Rhinoplasty specifically: no contact sport for [PLACEHOLDER] weeks to protect the bony work.

These are guides, not permission slips — the surgical team will give you a specific timeline at each follow-up based on how the tissues are actually settling.
